The Cardiovascular
Epidemiology Trainee Website Project was first introduced at the
NHLBI
CVD Epidemiology and BIostatistics Training Session in March 2000.
At inception, the goal of the project was to develop a resource
tailored to the needs and interests of trainees to enhance the training
experience and strengthen career development opportunities. It quickly
became apparent that these goals required removing barriers to interaction
and collaboration not only between trainees, but also among all
trainees, faculty and adjunct professionals - the cardiovascular
epidemiology research community as a whole.
cvEpi is the
result of this iterative process. Trainees in the Cardiovascular
Epidemiology Program at the University of North Carolina School
of Public Health volunteered to spearhead the development and
testing of the first generation content and tools for this site.
Trainees at sister institutions - and we hope the cvEpi community
as a whole - will join us in adding new features and optimizing
its usefullness.
Specific
goals for the site:
- Facilitate
interaction among trainees and faculty across geographically diverse
programs.
- Share expertise,
experience and viewpoints in the use of cardiovascular related
information.
- Provide a
forum for exploring commonalities among cvEpi training programs
and avenues for program integration
- Provide information
about career, educational and job opportunities.
- Strengthen
the NRSA/NHLBI Epidemiology and Biostatistics training programs.
