The NHLBI Training
Advocacy Group Conference of January 2000 stressed the importance
of developing skills of critical thinking and effective communication,
and strongly suggested the exchange of ideas as a principal tool
in developing these skills. Interaction among cardiovascular epidemiology
trainees, teachers and practitioners at any one location is relatively
easy, but interaction between those at different locations is often
restricted to annual meetings, summer workshops and occasional contact
with visiting lecturers. The cvEpi Journal Club is designed to increase
the size of this community of shared ideas and interests by reducing
the barriers of time and distance.
The goals of
the cvEpi Journal Club are:
- To bring
important and timely publications in this field to the attention
of the cardiovascular research community.
- To provide
critical analysis of such studies.
- To encourage
trainees in cardiovascular epidemiology to participate in the
critical debate of this literature.
