The sibling recurrence-risk ratio, lS, is a ratio comparing the probability
of being affected with disease given a sibling is diseased to the
population prevalence of that disease. Estimates of lS are widely
used in genetic epidemiological studies for several types of data.
We develop maximum likelihood estimates for lS and distribution theory
for likelihood ratio tests for use with affected sibling pair marker
data under several different genetic models. Applications of distribution
theory to genetic linkage analysis based on affected sibling pairs
are explained.
